U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Matthew Sartin, a platoon sergeant with 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, Battalion Landing Team 1/6, grazes over the port side of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) while manning the rails, Naval Base Norfolk, Virginia, Jul. 10, 2023. Manning the rails is a long-standing naval tradition performed to render honors prior to a ship departing a port. The 26th MEU(SOC) and Bataan ARG are trained and certified in a wide range of flexible capabilities across the spectrum of military conflict. Throughout their deployment, they will train and conduct operations alongside Allies and Partners, improving interoperability while demonstrating the combat power and flexibility of the Navy-Marine Corps team. Sartin is a native of Whitwell, Tennessee.
