U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Alexander Thomas, an infantry Marine with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, posts security during a simulated counter attack on a forward arming and refueling point at Shoalwater Bay Training Area, July 5, 2023. The counter attack tested the reaction time and tactical ability of bulk fuel specialists with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Rein.), in coordination with BLT 2/1 Marines, both with the 31st MEU, to respond to enemy fire within an expeditionary advanced base of operations. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
