230721-N-MD461-1087 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 21, 2023) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 2nd Class William Maggitt, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, stands aircraft safety observer while an F/A-18F Super Hornet , assigned to the “Bounty Hunters” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 2, is towed onto an aircraft elevator from the hangar bay of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1’s flagship, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations. Integrated exercises prepare our Sailors to respond quickly. U.S. 3rd Fleet works in close coordination with other numbered fleets to provide commanders with capable, ready forces to deploy forward and win in day-to-day competition, in crisis, and in conflict.
