U.S. Army Soldiers of Charlie Company, 634th Battalion Support Company, Illinois National Guard, work together to load a simulated injured U.S. Marine into a Humvee 2-CT Ambulance. This training occurred within a mass casualty exercise conducted on Grayling Army Airfield during Northern Strike 2023, Aug. 15, 2023. This exercise involves the coordinated efforts of Soldiers and Marines to efficiently execute a multifaceted mass casualty evacuation plan, demonstrating their ability to evacuate casualties from a challenging and resource-limited environment.
Northern Strike is one of the National Guard’s largest joint, readiness producing exercises, held annually at Michigan’s National All-Domain Warfighting Center, which consists of Camp Grayling, the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, the Selfridge Air National Guard Base and other training areas. This year’s exercise will involve approximately 7,000 personnel consisting of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Special Operations Forces, Emergency Response Teams and allies/foreign partners from 65 military units, 13 States and four countries.
