U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Max Onderik of the 127th Medical Group, 127th Wing, Michigan Air National Guard, administers blood to a simulated casualty as part of a mass casualty exercise held at Grayling Army Airfield during Northern Strike 2023, Aug. 15, 2023. The utilization of Critical Care Air Transport Teams guarantees the provision of necessary care to casualties before they are transported by air to medical facilities.

Northern Strike is one of the National Guard’s largest joint, readiness producing exercises, held annually at Michigan’s National All-Domain Warfighting Center, which consists of Camp Grayling, the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, the Selfridge Air National Guard Base and other training areas. This year’s exercise will involve approximately 7,000 personnel consisting of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Special Operations Forces, Emergency Response Teams and allies/foreign partners from 65 military units, 13 States and four countries.
