A Marine with Bravo Company, 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, awaits confirmation that Camp Pendleton’s Red Beach has been deemed secured by ground forces during a division-scale amphibious landing exercise, Dec. 10, 2012. The landing marked the first day of Exercise Steel Knight, an annual exercise designed to train and prepare the 1st Marine Division for deployment as the ground combat element of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force. The focus of the exercise is to ensure that 1st Marine Division is fully prepared to deploy as an expeditionary force across the full spectrum of military operations and is capable of responding to any crisis around the world.
