Army Sgt. Michael Wise, 223rd Personal Security Detachment, shoots an M-4 to keep his skills sharp, March 2. The unit is responsible for the security of the battalion commander. The M-4 is a shorter and lighter version of the M-16/A2 assault rifle, with a 4.5 inch barrel, telescoping butt stock and increased rate of fire and is the weapon of choice for the detachment. Wise is deployed from Fort Lewis, Wash.
