During a training exercise, Miami native, Sgt. Carlos Merchan, left, and Auburn, Calif., native, Sgt. Jared Elzea, wash down their Light Mobility Tactical Vehicle at an operational decontamination site near Simmons Lake, Dec. 11. Merchan, Elzea and other troops of Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, XVIII Fires Brigade, went to the site after a simulated attack with mustard gas. As the truck commander, Merchan and his driver were directed to the vehicle wash-down station prior to going to the personnel decontamination area. 3-321 FAR incorporated the decontamination training into their culminating training event to prepare for the unit’s upcoming assignment as a quick reaction and rapid response force for the U.S. Army North Command in support of emergencies in the United States.
