U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Gavin Kruger, a motor transport maintainer, with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, provides security as part of a field training exercise during Super Garuda Shield 2023 at the 5th Marine Training Center (Puslatpur), Situbondo Regency, East Java, Indonesia, Sept. 4, 2023. Pacific Marines work daily alongside the joint force and like-minded allies and partners to prevent conflict, strengthen security and stability, and if the nation calls, to fight and win. Super Garuda Shield 2023 (SGS23) is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS2023 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the seven participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
