U.S. Marines with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, soldiers with 25th Infantry Division, 1/27 Infantry Regiment, soldiers with the 515 Infantry Division, Indonesia National Armed Forces and soldiers with the Singapore Army Deployment Force Battalion, Spear Company, coordinate troop movements as part of a field training exercise during Super Garuda Shield 2023 at the 5th Marine Training Center (Puslatpur), Situbondo Regency, East Java, Indonesia, Sept. 5, 2023. Bilateral planning is an opportunity to integrate and exercise emerging warfighting concepts with allies and partners. Marines train closely with allies and joint partners to enhance our collective capabilities, readiness, and effectiveness in preparation for any crisis or contingency in the future. Super Garuda Shield 2023 (SGS23) is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS2023 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the seven participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
