U.S. Army Staff Sgt. James Ritchie, an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team leader from the 217th Ordnance Company, scans for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats during a joint contaminated downed unmanned aerial system exercise during Bright Star 2023, Sept. 10, 2023, at Mohamed Naguib Military Base, Egypt. Joint training in CBRN allows for shared knowledge among partner militaries to protect military and civilians from CBRN attacks. Bright Star 2023 is a multilateral U.S. Central Command exercise held with the Arab Republic of Egypt across air, land and sea domains that promotes and enhances regional security and cooperation, and improves interoperability in irregular warfare against hybrid threat scenarios.
