Brig. Gen. Kirk E. Gibbs, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division commander, left, and Vandi Leheny, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mission manager in charge of the organization’s debris recovery efforts, talk about the USACE response efforts in fire-damaged areas of Lāhainā, Hawai‘i, Sept. 12.

USACE is actively supporting Maui County, the state of Hawai’i and FEMA by providing temporary power, coordinating recovery efforts for critical public facilities and the county's debris removal efforts from areas impacted by the Aug. 8, wildfires. As commander of the Pacific Ocean Division, Gibbs is responsible for regional authority over four USACE districts, including the Honolulu District.
