Brig. Gen. Kirk E. Gibbs, 34th Commander and Division Engineer of the Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers receives a briefing from a team of USACE first responders regarding the wildfire mission in Lahaina on Sept. 12.
USACE is actively supporting Maui County, the state of Hawai’i and FEMA by providing temporary power and critical public facilities to include a temporary elementary school in Lahaina and supporting the county's removal of debris from areas impacted by the wildfires. As commander of the USACE POD, Gibbs is responsible for regional authority over four USACE districts, including the Honolulu District.
