U.S. Army Air Force Staff Sgt. Myron “Ty” Ettus, was a waist gunner on the “Miss Irish” B-17 Flying Fortress during World War II, assigned to the 350th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group, assigned to Thorpe Abbotts, Diss, England, in 1944. Ettus’s son Doug, a retired U.S. Navy captain, visited Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, Sept. 15, 2023, to see the KC-135 Stratotanker with the Miss Irish heritage nose art and meet with the 100th Security Forces Squadron who have “adopted” the aircraft.
