Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Ettus’s father, U.S. Army Air Force Staff Sgt. Myron “Ty” Ettus, was a waist gunner on the original Miss Irish – a B-17 Flying Fortress – during World War II. Ty flew out of Thorpe Abbotts, Diss, England, and Doug and his wife travelled to the U.K. to visit Thorpe Abbotts and the 100th Air Refueling Wing to learn more about his father’s time stationed in England.
