U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, coordinate with U.S. Department of State personnel during an evacuation control center (ECC) site survey as part of a Joint Interagency Intergovernmental and Multinational Exercise (JIIMEX), at Naha Military Port, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 3, 2023. The ECC site survey provided a plan for processing U.S. civilians living in a simulated nation for processing and evacuation in response to potential embassy crisis. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
