Walter Reed Chaplains Army Maj. David Ruderman and Rabbi Randall Brown celebrated the holiday of Sukkot with a special event held on October 3, 2023, in the Sukkah (booth) built in the courtyard between Walter Reed Bldgs. 9 and 10.
This eight-day holiday celebrated by Jews around the world. Also called the “Festival of Tabernacles,” it recalls one of the three Pilgrimage Festivals which the Israelites were commanded to take during the year to the Temple in Jerusalem. The main feature of this holiday is the building and occupying of the Sukkah in which families gather daily to eat, and for the more orthodox Jews to sleep in, which provides a connection to the shelters used during the pilgrimages and during the harvest season which also coincides with this celebration.
After an explanation of the holiday, refreshments were available to the participants.
