ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Nov. 2, 2023) The U.S. Naval Academy holds a renaming ceremony for Calvert Road in honor of former U.S. Naval Academy 46th Superintendent Vice Adm. James F. Calvert. Calvert. During his tenure, he replaced the standardized military curriculum with the introduction of 20 new majors, and championed the funding and development of Nimitz Library. The name change from Buchanan Road is a result of the recommendation by the Congressional Naming Commission, which provided recommendations for all Department of Defense items that commemorate the Confederate States of America or any person who served voluntarily with the CSA.
