231106-N-VM650-1064 PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 6, 2023) Quartermaster 1st Class Kevin Negron, from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, uses a signal light aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104) during Multi-Large Deck Event (MLDE). Signal lights are used to communicate between ships, typically using Morse code. MLDE with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) is designed to advance combined readiness between JMSDF and the U.S. Navy while simultaneously demonstrating our commitment to our partners and allies in the Indo-Pacific region. Sterett, assigned to Carrier Strike Group ONE, is deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
