U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Robert Hecox, right, the chaplain of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and MSgt. Ronaldo Manabat, a chaplain in the Philippine Marine Corps Reserve, look at architecture during an island tour of Batanes, Philippines, Nov. 12, 2023. Chaplains of the Filipino Marines hosted an island tour for Hecox as an opportunity to exchange experience being religious leaders in the military and build familiarity with the island of Batanes as a part of KAMANDAG 7. KAMANDAG is an annual bilateral exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military designed to strengthen interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades of shared experiences. This year marks the seventh iteration of this exercise and includes participants from Japan, the Republic of Korea, and observers from the United Kingdom. MRF-SEA is a Marine Corps Forces Pacific operational model that involves exchanges with subject matter experts, promotes security goals with Allies and Partners, and positions I MEF forces west of the International Date Line.
