Michael “Laughing Fox” Charette, is presented a special plaque of appreciation from Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Calarco, Fort McCoy Garrison command sergeant major, and Garrison Commander Col. Stephen Messenger on Nov. 14th, 2023, during Fort McCoy’s National Native American Heritage Month event. Charette is a Native American storyteller and self taught Native flute player which he uses to enhance his storytelling along with a drum. He travels and teaches others Native American history, culture, art, and spirituality. November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.
