U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Meagan Bowis answers a question during a panel discussion covering gender considerations during disaster relief during the expert academic discussion portion of the 2023 Nepal Disaster Response Exercise & Exchange (DREE) "Unity of Effort VI" at Kathmandu, Nepal, Nov. 7, 2023. The 2023 Nepal DREE is part of the continued multilateral engagement of the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) and the Government of Nepal (GON). The DREE is an opportunity for the GON to identify gaps, shortfalls, and challenges while familiarizing the GON with stakeholders, coordinate current and future requirements, and implement regular exercise procedures. This will increase the GON’s ability to respond to, manage, and mitigate at the national and provincial level a catastrophic domestic or regional disaster which requires multilateral and international humanitarian assistance, disaster relief support and coordination.
