Elias Abdulahad, 802nd Civil Engineer Group chief of energy and utilities, looks at an abandoned transformer during a site visit with a delegation for the JBSA geothermal prototype project, Chapman Annex, JBSA-Lackland, Texas, Nov. 20, 2023, to evaluate the potential to extract thermal energy through a closed-loop system. When operational, the geothermal prototype at JBSA has the potential to furnish a seamless supply of clean, reliable baseload energy even in the event of commercial-grid outages.
