Maj. Gen. Thomas Mancino, adjutant general for Oklahoma, addresses members of Leadership Oklahoma at the Tulsa Air National Guard Base, Nov. 16, 2023. Fifty members of the organization gathered to learn about the Oklahoma National Guard and its role in local and national affairs.
Leadership Oklahoma brings together 52 leaders from across the state each year to explore different session topics aimed at equipping them to be more effective in their communities and contribute to the progress of the state.
This year’s visit included briefs from both Air and Army National Guard representatives on the reach and readiness of the Oklahoma National Guard, and culminated in a ride on a CH-47 Chinook.
“I think when you get to ride in a Chinook or a Blackhawk, it shows you the power and the immense capability that we have if we have a flood, if we have a tornado, if we have wildfires. But also if they need to go support overall military efforts at the Southern border with that capability is right here at a Tulsa base,” said Susan Crenshaw, the local class planning committee chair of Leadership Oklahoma.
The visit showcased the role the Oklahoma National Guard plays in safeguarding communities and maintaining a strong national defense. (Oklahoma National Guard photo by Spc. Danielle Rayon)
