Airmen from the 311th Aircraft Maintenance Unit conduct an F-16 Viper high-power engine run afterburner maintenance at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, Nov. 16, 2023. Afterburner operation occurs when raw jet fuel is injected into the engine augmenter, resulting in a long cone of fire out of the exhaust and generating twenty-four thousand pounds of thrust propelling the airframe.
