VOLAR Barracks Renovation at Fort Liberty, North Carolina

Stephen Kitt, Project Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, pauses for a photo during a quality assurance inspection on one of eight newly renovated volunteer army (VOLAR) barracks at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. These barracks, built in the 1970s, were identified as unsustainable by the base back in August of 2022. Savannah District partnered with the Omaha District Rapid Response Technical Center of Expertise to expedite the completion of the project. Construction began in March 2023, and Soldiers are expected to move in sometime in early 2024. These updated barracks will provide approximately 1,100 Soldiers with a modern, state-of-the-art building to live in on the installation, bringing them a better quality of life and helping them to be better prepared and ready to train so they can continue to serve the Nation.
