USACE Omaha District's Connor Florey, a power plant electrician at the Fort Randall Dam near Pickstown, South Dakota. He is from Lake Andes, SD and has a degree in Power Line Construction & Maintenance from Mitchell Tech in South Dakota.
Connor has been collaborating with the Fort Randall team to complete the multiyear Power Plant Control System/Remote Terminal Unit Project at the dam, which requires the coordination of multiple outages between USACE Operations Division and the Western Area Power Authority.
In addition to re-wiring and installation requirements, Connor took a special interest in leading the drawing control effort to ensure Fort Randall completed the project with accurate as-built drawings. Connor has also been using his technical skills and drawing control experience to play a significant role in the redlining and review process for digital as-built drawings. Connor’s attention to detail aided Fort Randall in obtaining accurate referencing documents for future wiring changes and troubleshooting.
Connor was an instrumental part of the installation of the new Generator Step-up (GSU) transformer and commissioning project while coordinating efforts between Hydroelectric Design Center, the contractor and dam operations staff. Connor accomplished work on these projects alongside his day-to-day maintenance tasks.
