U.S. Soldiers assigned to the Joint Forces Headquarters of the South Carolina Army National Guard conduct an assumption of responsibility ceremony for U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Norris K. McCall, South Carolina Army National Guard headquarters armory, Columbia, South Carolina Dec. 7, 2023. During the ceremony, McCall assumed responsibility as the 14th South Carolina Army National Guard state command sergeant major. In that role, McCall is the senior enlisted advisor to the adjutant general, and primarily focuses on the health, wellness, and morale of all South Carolina National Guard Soldiers. In addition, the state command sergeant major has oversight responsibilities on organizational strength and overall readiness across all South Carolina Army National Guard commands and facilities. Since joining the National Guard in 1988, McCall has served in a variety of leadership positions, with the 178th Field Artillery Regiment first, then with the 7th Transportation Group in Iraq, and as the command sergeant major for the South Carolina Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Command.
