Nanako Lipai, a Mokil Atoll native, poses for a photo aboard a Japan Air Self-Defense Force C-130H Hercules for Operation Christmas Drop 2023 (OCD 23), at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Dec. 6, 2023. Established in 1952, OCD has evolved into the longest-running Department of Defense humanitarian aid and disaster relief mission, benefiting over 20 thousand islanders on 58 islands throughout the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau. This was Lipai’s third time flying during OCD but it was the first time she got to fly to her home island to drop supply bundles. (U.S. Air Force photo–by Airman 1st Class Spencer Perkins)
