Soldiers assigned to U.S. Army, Pacific (USARPAC) parade the U.S. and Australian Flags during a Jan. 17, 2013, Deputy Commanding General flying V Ceremony at the Historic Palm Circle on Fort Shafter, Honolulu, Hawaii. The ceremony welcomed Australian Defense Force Maj. Gen. Richard M. Burr as the newly appointed Headquarters U.S. Army Pacific deputy commanding general of operations. This appointment of a foreign military officer is a first of its kind at this level of leadership in the U.S. Army and signifies the continuing strong relationship between the United States and Australia and further shows the support by both countries for the National strategy of ensuring stability and security throughout the Pacific region.
