Fort Leonard Wood drill sergeants and training instructors surround and observe the final two competitors – cadets Matthew Doyle (right), from Central High School, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Gabrielle Carnoali, from Leavenworth High School, in Leavenworth, Kansas – in the Individual Drill Down portion of the Waynesville Junior ROTC Drill Competition Jan. 20 at Waynesville High School. Doyle ended up winning the event that began with more than 50 cadets, who were eliminated as they performed incorrect movements or otherwise made mistakes. This year’s competition included 10 schools from across the region, with Leavenworth High School, from Leavenworth, Kansas, named overall champions.
