U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Erik Barton, a combat photographer with 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, stands at parade rest during a French Fourragere ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 2, 2024. France awarded the fourragere to the Marines and Sailors of the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments in 1918 for their heroism and bravery in the battles of Belleau Wood, Soissons and Champagne during World War I. To this day, the French Fourragere is exclusively awarded to Marines who serve in the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments, serving as a testament to the enduring traditions and history shared by those units. Barton is a native of California. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Juan Torres)
