Officers from the installation Security Department, the Newport County Special Response Team, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service were part of an active shooter drill conducted at the Navy Medical Readiness and Training Command on Feb. 8, 2024. The drill was part of Exercise Citadel Shield and a force protection event conducted at Naval Station Newport, RI. This type of drill and training is of great value to law enforcement from both the installation and local communities as personnel gain great knowledge and familiarity with working together in an integrated response to an event.
