Efrain Gonzalez, 12th Maintenance Squadron airplane general mechanic, uses an aircraft jack stand to raise a T-38 Talon for scheduled maintenance on the aircraft's speed brake, Feb. 9, 2024, at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. The Talon is a twin-engine, high-altitude, supersonic jet trainer used in a variety of roles because of its design, economy of operations, ease of maintenance, high performance and exceptional safety record. Air Education and Training Command is the primary user of the T-38 for joint specialized undergraduate pilot training. Each of the two engines on the T-38 can produce 3,300 pounds of thrust with afterburners. Gonzalez conducts regular maintenance to ensure the aircraft can land and stop safely.
