The wetland pumping valve located at the Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge managed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Brussel, Illinois. During World Wetland Day on Feb. 2, 2024, the St. Louis Regulatory staff toured the wetland and viewed the updated pumping system used to fill the upper and lower Calhoun moist soil units. The electrical equipment was raised above flood level and the pumping system draws ground water up into the wetland areas. The refuge encompasses 9,225 acres of riverine and floodplain habitat scattered around the confluence of the rivers.
