    QUITO, Ecuador (Feb. 27, 2024) – Participants kick off the U.S./Ecuador Maritime Staff Talks (MSTs) in Quito with a group photo. U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet conducts an annual MST with the Ecuadorian Navy to discuss upcoming operations and exercises that will improve interoperability and increase the readiness of both countries’ maritime forces. U.S. Marine Corps Forces South and U.S. Coast Guard Eleventh District also participated in the MST with Ecuador. Prior to the MST, the Ecuadorian Navy awarded its Great Star of Military Merit to Navy Rear Adm. Jim Aiken, Commander U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, and Coast Guard Rear Adm. Andrew Sugimoto, Commander U.S. Coast Guard Eleventh District, for their contributions in strengthening the maritime partnership with the Ecuadorian Navy. This award is represented by a sash for wear in a dress uniform.
