Spc. John Brennan assigned to the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin, Calif., fires an M17 pistol during the 2024 International Best Mortar Competition at Parks Range, Fort Moore, Ga., April 8, 2024. Mortars have the most power and range of any weapon in an Infantry unit. Indirect Fire Soldiers are members of a mortar squad, section, or platoon.
