Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais Vice-Almirante (Brazilian Marine Corps Vice Admiral) Renato Ferreira, commanding general of CFN Fleet Marine Force, and U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Omar J. Randall, Deputy Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces South and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve, discuss common security challenges during the African Maritime Forces Summit and Naval Infantry Leadership Symposium – Africa (AMFS/NILS-A), in Accra, Ghana, April 30, 2024. Randall attended NILS-A alongside Brazilian and Colombian Marine Corps leaders. Maritime forces in Western Africa and South America share many of the same challenges, ranging from illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing to transnational criminal organizations.
AMFS and NILS-A is a strategic-level forum designed to address transnational maritime security challenges in African waters, bringing together partner nations with marine forces and naval infantry to develop interoperability, crisis response capabilities, and foster relationships that will improve Africa's maritime domain security.
