A bronze plaque depicting President Theodore Roosevelt's famous April 23, 1910, speech, "Man in the Arena," is mounted on guided-missile cruiser USS Port Royal's (CG 73) quarterdeck and pilothouse. These plaques serve as a symbol of her Sailors' motivation and dedication to mission accomplishment. Port Royal is part of the USS Tarawa Expeditionary Strike Group and is on a regularly scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Operating in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, the U.S. 7th fleet is the largest of the forward deployed U.S. Fleets covering 52 million square miles, with approximately 50 ships, 120 aircraft, and 20,000 Sailors and Marines assigned at any given time.
