A student training to become a survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) specialist, assigned to the 66th Training Squadron at Fairchild AFB, hangs pieces of meat on a stand to dry them out to make beef jerky. SERE specialists need to be able to find and prepare sustenance in various environments so they are able to teach others how to do the same, ensuring at-risk personnel have the skills to ensure they can return with honor if an incident ever leaves them stranded.
