Boatswains Mate 2nd Class Devona Martinez, team leader, watches as Culinary Specialist Seaman Brandon Voss swings the maul that will release the port anchor stopper of amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa as it anchors off the coast of Kuwait. Tarawa is currently conducting operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. Maritime Security Operations help set the conditions for security in the maritime environment. From security, arises stability that results in global economic prosperity. MSO complements the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt use of the maritime environment by violent extremists as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
