Two foreign fishing boats fish near Peru’s maritime border, June 6, 2024. These practices include fishing without proper authorization or licenses, failing to report catches accurately, and operating vessels that do not adhere to established regulations and conservation measures. IUUF undermines sustainable fisheries management efforts, threatens marine biodiversity, disrupts ecosystems, and adversely affects coastal communities and economies. Efforts to combat IUUF aim to promote responsible fishing practices, protect marine resources, ensure fair competition among fishers, and support the long-term sustainability of fisheries and marine ecosystems.
