240618-N-LY640-1311 USTKA, Poland (June 18, 2024) - Naval Air Crewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class Drake Richardson and a French ordnance disposal diver are lowered down to a rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB) operated by a Norwegian explosive ordnance disposal team from an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter from the "Black Jacks" of Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) Squadron 21 to detonate a floating mine during a mine countermeasure training exercise during BALTOPS24. BALTOPS24 is the premier maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region. The exercise, led by U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and executed by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO, provides a unique training opportunity to strengthen combined response capabilities critical to preserving freedom of navigation and security in the Baltic Sea.
