Col. Lindy White, Joint Resiliency Director, Oklahoma National Guard, and Jennifer Nevers, military behavioral health social worker with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Center for Deployment Psychology, welcomes attendees of a one-day workshop for Star Behavioral Health Providers at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Norman, Oklahoma, June 18, 2024.
“Our program really seeks to improve the quality of care that Soldiers, especially the National Guard and Reserve, receive whenever they seek mental health treatment in their local communities,” Nevers said. “It really helps them to have that military cultural competency to have that context so that they understand some of the language, they understand some of the military ethos and the culture and really can take that into account whenever they're working with service members.”
The workshop provides a foundation for working with service members, veterans, and their families, focusing on military cultural competence, unique characteristics of military families, and the impact on those who serve and their families. (Oklahoma National Guard photo by Sgt. Haden Tolbert)
