Oklahoma Army National Guardsman, Lt. Col. Michael Scanlon, deputy chief of staff for operations, speaks during a one-day workshop hosted for Star Behavioral Health Providers at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Norman, Oklahoma, June 18, 2024.
“In my opinion, for an ordinary Guardsman–someone that has a full time job and a part time commitment to the Guard–the greatest risk they face, aside from enemy gunfire in [a war zone], is the period following–demobilization back to civilian life,” Scanlon said.
The workshop provides a foundation for working with service members, veterans, and their families, focusing on military cultural competence, unique characteristics of military families, and the impact on those who serve and their families. (Oklahoma National Guard photo by Pfc. Brooklyn Clark)
