Bald cypress trees planted on the lake bottom of Lake Okeechobee to restore a native cypress fringe that was eliminated through logging, cattle grazing, wildfires and change in hydrology. This is planted in shallow areas of the sandy lake bottom. This is not a tree island, but does provide important vertical structure for wildlife during periods of high water and also increases the diversity of habitat which is beneficial to wildlife. Planting started in these areas in 2015.
