One of six man-made tree islands on Lake Okeechobee that was created from a muck removal project in 2001. Since then, native trees and shrubs have been planted on these muck islands. These islands have provided important refuge for wildlife and around 70 species of birds have been documented using these islands, particularly in the winter where they may stop during migration. Wildlife such as racoons, rabbits, armadillos, opossums, deer, snakes, alligators and turtles all use these islands.
