PANACA, Nev. — The Los Angeles District’s Mathews Canyon Dam outlet is pictured June 25 in Lincoln County, Nevada. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the uncontrolled dam in 1957, about three hours north of Las Vegas. The dam is designed to slow heavy waterflow and mitigate potential catastrophic flood damage to nearby towns and farms.
The training exercise is designed to review, practice and assess the district’s response to catastrophic disaster scenarios. (Photo by Robert DeDeaux, USACE PAO)
