U.S. Army Spc. Crystal Lindamoon Female Engagement Team member assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, listens to female role players acting as Afghan villagers during a key leader engagement scenario at a mock Afghan village, Feb. 5, 2013, during exercise Warrior Spear at Schofield Barrack in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Female Engagement Teams go where infantry men can’t. Teams of female soldiers attach to infantry missions and provide much needed support in search and clearance operations. In many parts of Afghanistan, where interactions between unrelated males and females go against cultural norms, Female Engagement Teams are crucial during interactions with Afghan women. Warrior Spear is tough realistic training critical to soldier readiness. The exercise prepares company leaders to problem solve complex situations while maximizing the use of available assets to increase advantages during operations. Warrior Spear participants receive enabler integration and live fire training which are vital for soldiers to gain confidence in their training, their team members and their equipment.
