Karen Pletnikoff, the Environmental and Safety program manager at the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, speaks with Arctic and Global Resilience office and Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies leaders during a roundtable discussion on July 30, 2024, on Joint Base-Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Pletnikoff shared her perspective as a community leader and provided advice on how the DoD and Alaska Native communities can work together to address security challenges and opportunities. This meeting was a key part of a series of community-level roundtable discussions that the TSC conducted with the AGR office across Alaska aimed at providing orientation on the new 2024 DoD Arctic Strategy. The goal of these discussions was to gain valuable insights on how the DoD and Alaska Native communities can work together to strengthen security cooperation across the U.S. Arctic. By partnering together with Alaska Native communities, the DoD can ensure an Arctic region that is peaceful, stable, prosperous, and cooperative. (DoD photo by Amber E. Kurka)
